Completing the Largest Oil Refinery In the World Took Flawless Planning and Execution

Vision, imagination and utmost devotion were the requirements to develop what is possibly the largest private sector crude oil refinery in the world - definitely not a task for amateurs.

The refinery is a private sector crude oil refinery in Jamnagar, Gujarat. It was slated to have a capacity of 668,000 barrels or 106,200 m3/d. The entire complex was supposed to house manufacturing and allied facilities, utilities, off sites, port facilities and a township (415 acres of land) with housing for its 2500 employees, resulting in over 7500 acres.

If all of the pipes used in this refinery were laid out, one after another, they would connect the whole of India from north to south. Naturally, the concreting partner had to be flawless in its planning and execution, while the machinery had to be up to the task, high performing, robust and able to withstand the demands of the job.

The Challenge

Putzmeister was the first company in India to launch a homologated BSF 42-5  on a normal priced truck chassis. Also utilised were the BSF 20-4 & 8 BSF 36-4, a comprehensive product range from Putzmeister. The on-site staff appreciated the performance of both the BSF 42-5 and BSF 36-4.

Concrete Takeaways

The BSF 42-5 machine, used for the first time in India, has seen no spare parts consumption till date. Working smoothly day and night on site, it has proved that quantity and quality of performance can indeed go hand in hand.
